As someone who is part Native American, it is sickening to see a derogatory mascot and slur being used at the school I graduated from. This mascot, while perhaps intended to honor my ancestors, instead perpetuates harmful stereotypes and fosters an environment that can be hostile to indigenous people.

Ringgold is the only school in Louisiana to use the name "Redskins." It is time for them to join other institutions that have retired their mascots in recent years. Let us retire this defamatory mascot and put an end to racial stereotyping.
