Rethink the Baylink Metromover for Miami Beach

Rethink the Baylink Metromover for Miami Beach
The Issue
Attention Miami Beach Residents, Employers, & Service Workers,
Miami-Dade County and Commissioner Higgins are rushing MB Mayor and City Officials to Support her proposed Baylink Metromover coming to South Beach.
We all support mass transit but due to the rushed process by the county and Commissioner Higgins with MB officials and community there are many unanswered questions. The county explored only one Metrorail option based on the previous Genting Casino Hotel operator proposal to run a metrorail down MacArthur from the Arsht Center & his adjacent proposed Casino Hotel to 5th St. & Washington Ave - our MXE Entertainment district. That proposal failed and was not supported by the MB Mayor. Now the County Mayor Levine-Cava and Commission Higgins have relaunched the same plans with a slower Metromover on a 25-30ft. elevated concrete platform coming down Government Cut along MacArthur Causeway and dead ending at 5th & Washington.
The County estimates the project cost at $1 billion but based on their track record for estimating project costs it will probably be more than $2 billion. Another key point is that the assumed ridership appears to be wildly inflated at 10,000 per day given that Metromover ridership system wide in the third quarter of 2022 was only 17,300 per day, implying a 57% increase for just two added stations. This doesn't seem to be convenient for the vast majority of daily commuters given that the largest employers are located much closer to the I-195/Julia Tuttle corridor..
MB residents deserve a more in-depth mass transit analysis to provide efficient connectivity to serve all of North, Mid, & South beach residents, employers, employees, tourists, & our MB convention center. The current proposal is a white elephant that will have serious impact on Biscayne Bay environment/endangered coral/struggling sea grass, manatee health, and cause years of traffic issues with additional lanes closure for construction and staging.
Please sign the petition to Rethink the Baylink and it's current proposal.
