Retain our Chief of Police at the law school
The Issue
For those of us studying at the law school, Chief Johnny Smith has been more than just a figure of authority. Over the years, he's become an integral part of our community. He is an advocate, a mentor, and a protector dedicated to the safety and well-being of all students. His impending transfer to the main campus has left us feeling unheard and concerned for the future of our campus safety.
Every time students expressed concern about an issue, Chief Smith took it upon himself to address the problem promptly and effectively, always with the students’ best interests in mind. His understanding of our unique needs and his commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment make him invaluable to our law school.
Chief Smith’s departure would create a void not easily filled, potentially compromising the level of trust and rapport that has been built over the years. His familiarity with campus dynamics, not to mention his proven track record of enhancing security while maintaining campus harmony, makes him indispensable.
Statistics show that maintaining consistent, experienced leadership in law enforcement roles significantly reduces crime rates and enhances the community’s sense of safety and security. According to the Campus Safety Journal, continuity in campus police leadership can lead to a 20% decrease in incidents of campus-related crimes and improve overall response times during emergencies.
Rather than transferring him where his expertise may not be as effectively utilized or appreciated, we should be advocating for the retention of Chief Smith. Moving him to the main campus would be a disservice to the students who have relied on his guidance and leadership.
I urge the administration to reconsider this decision and allow Chief Smith to continue serving our law school community where he can continue to make a positive impact. Let us have our voice in the decision-making process for changes that will affect our daily lives.
Sign this petition to keep Chief Smith at our law school and preserve the safety and security we’ve come to depend on.
