Over the past 16 years, Joey Zins, the dedicated Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at IUP, has contributed significantly to both the academic and athletic successes of his athletes. His unique approach to training, emphasis on individual growth, and genuine concern for the overall well-being of his athletes has made him a treasured figure within the university's sporting community. He has worked incredibly well under financial constraints, with a 20% reduction in operating budget and lack of funding for scholarships, and formidable running programs. Yet, it is our belief without just cause, the Athletic Director and his associates have decided not to renew Coach Zins’ contract. We believe this decision directly contradicts the values and spirit of IUP, especially since it is Coach Zins' unwavering dedication and relentless efforts that have restructured and uplifted our Cross Country / Track & Field team. We believe that dismissing Coach Zins would be a significant loss to the IUP athletic department and its athletes. We demand the reversal of this decision and insist on retaining Coach Joey Zins, who has so proudly and diligently served this university.
