Retain Accessible On-Street Parking on 121 Street in Edmonton
The Issue
We, the undersigned businesses, residents, and stakeholders of the 121 Street corridor in Edmonton, are expressing concern regarding the proposed removal of on-street parking as part of the Wîhkwêntôwin Neighbourhood Renewal project between Jasper Avenue and 104 Avenue.
We support neighbourhood renewal, improved public spaces, and active transportation infrastructure. However, the current proposed design removes all on-street parking along this section of 121 Street - a corridor that functions primarily as an active commercial and service area.
This raises significant concerns regarding:
- accessibility for clients, customers, and visitors,
- short-duration parking for appointments and services,
- and the long-term viability of local businesses that rely on convenient access.
Many businesses along this corridor serve clients who require close and practical access, including individuals with mobility limitations. While alternative parking on adjacent streets has been referenced, these options do not fully address the day-to-day operational realities of this area.
We are respectfully asking the City of Edmonton to revisit the proposed design between Jasper Avenue and 104 Avenue and explore balanced solutions that retain meaningful on-street parking while still supporting broader neighbourhood renewal goals.
This petition is not opposition to neighbourhood renewal. Rather, it is a request for a more balanced approach that reflects the accessibility and operational needs of the businesses, residents, and stakeholders who rely on this corridor every day.
Please sign and share if you support maintaining accessible local businesses and practical street access along 121 Street.
Your support will help ensure that local businesses remain accessible and viable as this neighbourhood evolves.
Note: We are not fundraising with this petition; money donated here is not directed to the renovation project but to change.org.
