I would like to see these bins with top locking/self closing designs recalled, and replaced with a lock that can not close on its own.

I would like to see these bins with top locking/self closing designs recalled, and replaced with a lock that can not close on its own.
The Issue
As the above article indicates, I lost my cat in an IRIS manufactured top closing, airtight food storage bin I had purchased a month earlier at PetSmart. He became trapped after climbing into the bin when the lid closed and locked on him.
I have wrote complaints to both IRIS and PetSmart with only the promise that they would review the product design. I have made suggestions to add a spring to the design so that the lid would not be able to close without force and also to switch the orientation of the lock so that it would be pushed upward to lock. Gravity would prevent accidental locking.
Since the loss of my sweet Mowgli, I have learned of others that have also lost a cat in these bins. I have found them sold at many retailers under different names- all have a similar design. I want to ensure no other lives are lost to these airtight top closing bins. Since the loss of my cat I realize children could also hide in and die the same way. I would like to prevent anyone the horrific loss I experienced.
Please help me by signing the petition and sharing to others. Should this design continue to be manufactured I am certain others will die in the same tragic way I lost my Mowgli.
