On 14 August 2026, the Electoral Commission of Zambia suspended the counting and announcement of election results nationwide, citing violence against election officials and the theft of marked ballot papers in some areas.

We condemn all violence and intimidation. Those responsible must be investigated and held accountable. But the votes of millions of Zambians cannot be left in limbo.

WE CALL FOR:

* The immediate and transparent resumption of counting wherever security permits.
* Independent oversight, with full access for accredited local and international observers and party agents.
* Protection of all ballots, GEN 20 forms and election records.
* Regular public updates from ECZ, constituency by constituency.
* An independent investigation into violence, ballot theft or interference, with accountability regardless of political affiliation.

This is bigger than any political party.

Whatever party you supported, your vote deserves to be counted and your voice deserves to be heard.

Protect the vote. Resume the count. Publish the results. Respect the will of the people.
