Restrictions for Kratom

Restrictions for Kratom

"Kratom is promoted as an aid in overcoming withdrawal from opioid medications but research suggests that it leads to more health problems than it solves." -MayoClinic.org. Kratom is not regulated in the state of Kentucky and is sold in any store or gas station for "easy access." There is no age restriction, meaning, someone under the age of 18 can purchase in the state of Kentucky. Kratom has been linked to poison control center calls, inpatient rehabilitation for withdrawal side effects, overdose, and even deaths. When not taken correctly, just as any other controlled substance, kratom has mood and mind altering effects. As a person who has struggled with addiction and worked over 4 years in it, I have personally seen the effects that kratom possesses. I have seen it taken in low doses for energy and high doses for the opioid effects. I have seen and heard of people going into treatment for withdrawal from kratom. This substance needs major restrictions not just for the "responsible adults," but our kids who also have unlimited access.
