Restrict tuition and optionalize other fees in private universities

Restrict tuition and optionalize other fees in private universities
The Issue
In recent years, private universities and deemed universities have increased tuition fees at an alarming rate, making it challenging for many families to keep up with the financial demands of higher education. These institutions have also made other fees, such as cultural fees, book fees, career development fees, and placement fees, mandatory, further burdening students and their families. As a student pursuing higher education in a private university, I am directly affected by this issue. My parents are sacrificing their personal financial security to ensure my future, sweating blood to pay what feels like unnecessarily inflated costs.
The main concern is that these additional fees should be optional. For instance, almost 60% of students in these institutions are primarily focused on securing good placements with top-tier companies, which recruit mainly from high-end colleges. However, the financial stress associated with mandatory fees is becoming a heavy burden. Many students and parents are forced to take loans, leading to stress and anxiety about financial debt even before they graduate.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that teachers often do not use the prescribed books and management insists on external courses being studied. This not only puts students under immense stress but results in wastage of resources that could otherwise be allocated to more productive endeavors.
To make education more affordable and alleviate some of these burdens, we urge the appropriate educational authorities and governing bodies to take immediate action. We propose:
1. Implementing strict regulations to cap tuition fees in private and deemed universities.
2. Making additional fees like book fees, cultural fees, career development fees, and placement fees optional.
Such measures will bring much-needed financial relief to students and their families, ensuring that education remains a right and equal and not a privilege only accessible to the financially well-off. Providing students with the choice to pay for only the services they truly use or need is not only fair but necessary.
Let's stand together to push for these changes. We need to make the voices of students and parents heard. Please sign this petition to help transform higher education fees into a reasonable expectation rather than an impending financial burden. Together, we can effect change that will positively impact millions of students nationwide.
