Restrict Truck Traffic To Rt.30 and US.83
The Issue
As you all are aware York county has an ever increasing problem with building storage warehouses. With these warehouses comes the tractor trailers, thousands of them daily. They come here, they pick up and they leave. As a result of all of the trucks, Springettsbury Township has been facing the brunt of the increased truck traffic. Sherman St. and also Mt. Zion. These trucks are coming into our township and instead of taking the flat, open highway into Manchester/ Emigsville that was designed for them, they take Sherman and Mt. Zion as a shortcut into Manchester/ Emigsville. Both of these roads have severe grades, and are lined with homes on either side of the roadway. For the past 10 years it has gone from only local deliveries to anywhere from 20-100 trucks in a 24 hour period now using Sherman and Mt. Zion. This is constant 24/7 365 days a year the locals are having to deal with this. Anytime there is inclement weather, trucks get stuck on the hills and locals cannot even commute. We locals are constantly dealing with property damage due to the roadways having no expansion, yet we keep introducing more trucks to the area. There have been many close calls with stopped busses picking up children, these trucks speed aggressively around the blind corners. They have gone through a home on MT. Zion before and it will surely happen again unless something is done. I have talked with truck drivers that use the shortcut and I was told they go this way so they don't have to sit in all the truck traffic on rt.30 and 83. We understand trucks are important, but if York county wants to become a major truck hub, then restrictions need to be set into place so the locals can live a half peaceful life, take it back to local deliveries only.
