I'm a disabled veteran, and each time I visit the Gallatin Public Library, I find myself having to walk longer distances due to the lack of available parking spaces that should be reserved for library patrons. As a result, I experience difficulty accessing the library and often exhausted before I even step inside. This is not just my concern. Numerous other library patrons, many of whom are seniors or have disabilities, face similar challenges.

Currently, the Gallatin Public Library offers only two designated disabled parking spaces, and they are consistently occupied, leaving those with specific needs without an accessible option. This situation is exacerbated by the fact that many of these spaces are taken up by visitors to the nearby courthouse, forcing library patrons to park further away or opt-out of visiting the library altogether.

It's important to recognize that the library serves as a vital resource for the residents of Gallatin, especially for seniors, children, and individuals with disabilities. Libraries promote education, community engagement, and access to information, and when access is restricted due to inadequate parking options, we're denying individuals their right to these essential benefits.

We call upon the local government and other relevant authorities to take immediate action by restricting the parking lot of the Gallatin Public Library strictly for library patrons. This means implementing parking policies that direct courthouse visitors to utilize the nearby parking garage, ensuring the library lot is preserved for those who genuinely need it.

By doing so, we'll provide better access for individuals who rely on library services and those who might otherwise be deterred from visiting due to mobility challenges. Convenient parking should be a right, not a privilege, especially for those who depend on it the most.
