Restrict Marijuana Use in Minnesota to Medical Prescription Only

The Issue

As a concerned Minnesota resident, witnessing firsthand the detrimental effects of unrestricted cannabis use on individuals I care about deeply, I am urging our lawmakers to reconsider the regulation of marijuana in our state.

To lay a comprehensive view, numerous people I've seen personally have had their brain chemistry and personality negatively impacted by chronic marijuana use. They started using this "soft" drug casually, but soon, many transitioned into harder substances, causing a frightening spiral into addiction.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, marijuana use can lead to the development of a substance use disorder, and in severe cases, addiction. Around 10% of people who use marijuana will become addicted to it, the number increases to 17% for those who start using in their teens. Many start with marijuana, and it acts as a gateway to harsher, potentially deadly substances.

Furthermore, CBD gummies and hemp-based products, which are increasingly common derivatives of the Marijuana plant, are also prone to abuse since they are marketed as harmless or beneficial without concrete scientific backing. The long-term effects of these substances on the human nervous system are still not entirely known, and caution should be exercised.

Marijuana indeed has therapeutic potential, as evidenced by scientific research, and it should not be disregarded. That said, its recreational use and potential for abuse necessitate stricter regulations.

Given the personal and widespread societal risks, I urge the Minnesota authorities to limit the use of marijuana, including its derivatives like CBD gummies and hemp, to strictly medically prescribed purposes. By doing so, we can save citizens from the potential risks of addiction and other health hazards while retaining the medical benefits of the plant.

Let us protect our society and loved ones by making a conscious choice. Your support can make a difference. Sign this petition and help us voice this concern to the lawmakers of Minnesota.
