The French Quarter, quickly approaching 300 years old, was never intended for gas/diesel powered vehicles. They are eroding the fragile architecture, expiditing the demise of the road surface, and unnecessarily clogging the narrow through ways. Furthermore, drivers in the French Quarter are dangerous and aggressive. They often exceed posted speed limits, pass illegally, and run down pedestrians and carriages. The NOPD has little to no time to respond to any except the most egregious vehicle accidents in the French Quarter, leaving drivers with the impression that they can continue to drive in this dangerous manner. Louisiana (New Olreans) has the highest rate of uninsured drivers in the nation, sending our premiums sky rocketing, and leaving victims of vehicle crime with no recourse. It's time to put an end to these types of vehicles inside our most precious landmark so we can protect this beautiful and historic district and the people who visit it.
