Restrict Fireworks to Only the Fourth of July and Prohibit M-80s

The Issue

My beloved dog suffers immensely whenever fireworks light up the night sky. Despite sedation, he trembles in fear, urinates uncontrollably, and acts desperately out of character. This ordeal is not restricted to animals alone; countless community members endure this disquiet. Elderly citizens with sensitive hearing, veterans affected by PTSD, and our beautiful local wildlife also agonize under the noisiness of the firework celebrations.

For an entire week, the excessive use of fireworks is permitted, leading to unnecessary stress and anxiety within our community. This must change. We suggest allowing fireworks just on the night before, and the day of, the Fourth of July. This would reduce prolonged distress, while still enabling festive celebrations.

Moreover, illegal fireworks and specifically M-80s, known for their deafening explosions, need to be strictly prohibited. Not only are M-80s dangerous for the general public, but their noise is traumatic for many. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, M-80s are some of the most illegal explosives in the country, causing significant accidents and deaths.

It is essential to remember that this isn't about eliminating festivities but about acknowledging the impact they have on the most vulnerable among us. An amendment to these laws would lead to a happier, healthier, and more inclusive Fourth of July for all. Sign this petition to show your support for varying needs within our community.
