Restrict Commercial Vehicle/Trailer Parking on 3700 BLK Lampl Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA
The Issue
I am writing this petition on behalf of the Birchwood Civic League and the residents of North Central Virginia Beach who are deeply concerned about the increasing traffic congestion and nuisance caused by commercial vehicle and trailer parking along the 3700 Block of Lampl Avenue.
We urge local authorities to take immediate action to address this issue in order to alleviate traffic concerns, provide an adequate buffer between residential and commercial properties in line with the Virginia Beach Comprehensive Plan, and lessen the burden it has placed on our community.
As a resident living near Birchwood Park Shopping Center, I have personally witnessed how unrestricted commercial vehicle and trailer parking has negatively impacted our neighborhood. The constant presence of these vehicles not only obstructs visibility for drivers but also creates hazardous conditions for pedestrians. Additionally, commerical vehicle operators run generators, sleep in their vehicles and even preform maintenace on city roadways.
Furthermore, this unregulated parking situation goes against the vision outlined in the Virginia Beach Comprehensive Plan. The plan emphasizes creating a harmonious balance between residential areas and commercial zones while ensuring public safety. By allowing unrestricted commercial vehicle parking behind Birchwood Park Shopping Center, we are disregarding these principles.
We understand that enforcing restrictions is challenging without proper signage in place. Therefore, we request local authorities install clear signage indicating "No Commercial Vehicle or Trailer Parking" along the 3700 Block of Lampl Avenue. This will not only enable law enforcement to take action against violators but also serve as a deterrent for commercial vehicles seeking parking in this area. Currently, officers are limited to providing warning stickers and the city is not equipped to tow these types of vehicles that remain in place for long periods of time. Enacting a similar policy to that proposed on Beasley Drive (Town Center) would help enforcement efforts and help to reestablish adequate buffering between commercial and residential properties.
By signing this petition, we are urging the Virginia Beach City Council, the Department of Public Works-Traffic Engineering and the Virginia Beach Police Department Third Precinct staff and relevant authorities to address our concerns promptly. We believe that by restricting commercial vehicle and trailer parking on Lampl Avenue, we can alleviate traffic congestion, enhance public safety, and create a more harmonious living environment for all residents in North Central Virginia Beach.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
