Restrict Bicyclists from Using Roads When Bike Paths are Available
The Issue
I am writing as a concerned citizen and delivery driver, whose work is daily impeded by the use of roads by bicyclists. This is a familiar scenario in our route from Clermont to Groveland where a perfectly made bike path already exists for their benefit. However, the cyclists choose to ignore this facility, snarling traffic and wasting city funds. This not only slows down traffic but it also requires the precious time and resources of our local police force to manage the traffic disruption.
These bicyclists, in demanding the same rights as motorists, are seemingly exempt from following the traffic rules. It's an unchecked habit that is causing inconvenience to many and throws lost hours into our days. Our roads become chaotic during peak travel hours due to this needless disruption.
Relevant facts support our claim: According to the Clermont Police Department, traffic disruptions due to cyclists ignoring bike paths result in an annual expenditure that exceeds several thousand dollars (source: Clermont Police Department Data). This amount could be redirected towards more pressing issues that our community faces.
We appeal to you to join hands with us in a bid to enact better laws that will enforce the use of these bike paths by cyclists, thereby reducing road traffic, saving taxpayers' money, and allowing a smoother day for people like us whose livelihood depends on timely deliveries and prompt services. Your support on this issue is crucial. Please sign this petition.
