The Issue

I moved out to the countryside in Applegate Valley hoping to enjoy the peacefulness of nature. For over a month now, the marijuana farm next door has had multiple generators running 24/7. Despite having ample power at their property, they assured me it was only temporary. But now, over 30 days later, the irritating humming cacophony continues without respite. The property owners do not live on-site and seem indifferent to the nuisance they're causing or to the impact on nature.

The incessant noise is just one of the many reasons why the use of generators by marijuana farms should be restricted. These farms utilize generators around-the-clock, posing significant fire risks—especially during the dry months when the danger is heightened. With wildfires becoming increasingly common and devastating in Oregon, allowing this risk to persist is irresponsible.

Moreover, the environmental impact of continuous generator use cannot be understated. These generators emit pollutants that degrade air quality and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, affecting not only our immediate environment but also the global climate. In an era where environmental conservation should be a priority, it is crucial that we address and limit practices that harm our planet.

Private landowners like myself should not have to suffer diminished quality of life due to the negligence of neighboring farms. Our voices deserve consideration, and equitable standards must be implemented. Current regulations favor these commercial interests at the expense of residents' peace and the preservation of our natural surroundings.

I urge local authorities in Grants Pass and the surrounding areas to implement regulations that restrict the usage of generators by marijuana farms. Alternative solutions, such as connecting to grid power or using renewable energy sources like solar or wind, should be encouraged. Such measures will not only protect the environment but also ensure that residents can enjoy their properties without constant disturbance.

Please sign this petition to support the implementation of regulations on generator use, protecting both the environment and the tranquility of our communities.
