Dear Residents and Supporters,

Thank you for your continued support for our petition to clean and revitalize the neglected High Street of Edgware. Your voices matter, and together we are building momentum to demand the change our community deserves.
As part of our campaign, letters were sent to our three local councillors and our MP, David Pinto-Duschinsky. Unfortunately, only one councillor, Mearing-Smith, responded, and the reply was deeply disappointing. The response primarily emphasized the council's lack of funding, with no acknowledgment of the urgent need to replace pavements, add and replace bins, or take concrete action to clean up and improve our High Street.
Below is the Councillor reply and my response, which I encourage you to read and share:

Dear Zac Gazit
Thank you for your email. I and the other Edgware councillors have been working to improve the condition of both streets. We're still waiting for the electric cleaning machine to be deployed. Several more CCTV cameras have been installed. We have a reporting system through WhatsApp to allow for rapid clearance of fly tipping.
All these efforts have helped, but it is an uphill battle. The chances of securing additional funding are very low, given the council's budget problems. Nevertheless, we will keep up the pressure.
Best regards

My reply:
Subject: Re: Petition for Cleaning and Revitalising Edgware High Street
Dear Councillor,
Thank you for your reply regarding the petition to address the dirty and neglected state of Edgware High Street. Unfortunately, I must express my dissatisfaction with your response, as it fails to address several key concerns raised in the petition.
The petition explicitly calls for a comprehensive plan to revitalize the High Street, including replacing and maintaining pavements, adding and replacing bins, and implementing other essential improvements. While I acknowledge your efforts with CCTV installations and fly-tipping reporting systems, these measures alone are insufficient and do not tackle the root causes of the High Street’s current state.
Your reference to budget constraints is noted, but it is disheartening to hear that securing additional funding is considered unlikely. As representatives of the community, I believe it is the responsibility of you and the council to advocate more strongly for resources to improve the quality of life for residents and businesses in Edgware.
To keep our supporters informed, we intend to share your response on social media forums. I also want to inform you that the petition now has the support of over 1,000 residents who are equally concerned about the neglect of Edgware High Street.
We hope this growing public support encourages you to revisit this issue with a renewed sense of urgency and determination. Please let us know what further steps you and the council will take to address these critical matters.
Kind regards,
Zac Gazit
