The Pleasantville Indoor Sports Facility is the only one of its kind serving the City of San Fernando and a catchment area containing a population of over 200, 000 citizens. Since it was first opened it has been in continuous use by every imaginable amateur & professional sporting and community organization. It provides a magnificent service to the surrounding communities. 

Because of the pandemic, use of the facility has been understandably restricted. Partial public usage was only restored in June 2022 and the hours of availability are 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday to Friday and 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays & Sundays. 

We had been assured that the hours would gradually be restored to make more night time bookings available. This has not happened and, worse, given the competing demands for use, activities that actually require use of the court - badminton, basketball & volleyball - find themselves shunted aside for other less traditional activities. 

This petition casts no shame on those less traditional activities using the space nor any blame on the Administration of the facility.

This petition asks ONLY for the restoration of extended hours of use to midnight, 7 days a week so that all groups have more reasonable access overall and so that the indoor court sports (amateur & clubs) can have a fair chance to book time. 

We hereby call upon the Management of the Pleasantville Indoor Sports Facility and the Minister of Sports to put the necessary supports in place (security & sanitation) and to restore the extended hours of use available for all groups.
