The Issue

Palm Beach Road Relief Initiative

Palm Beach residents and surrounding communities fully support necessary presidential security.

The current open-ended closure of South Ocean Boulevard (SR A1A) between South County Road and Southern Boulevard is causing:

• Daily traffic gridlock

• Reduced mobility across the island

• Strain on emergency access routes

• Disruption to residents, schools, workers, and businesses

Palm Beach’s limited residential road network — with only three bridges and a single north-south corridor — was not designed for sustained closure of a primary roadway.

This is an infrastructure and public-safety issue.

We respectfully request a proportional operating policy — consistent with approaches previously implemented in Palm Beach:

• Reopen South Ocean Blvd when the protectee is not in residence

• Use temporary closures only during active protection operations

• Provide clear public communication regarding timing and access

Palm Beach should not function indefinitely under an “until further notice” closure of a primary roadway.

Security and access can coexist.
