Restore the Wyoming Area Senior Class All-Night Party to June 6th, Graduation Night.

The Issue

For decades, the Wyoming Area High School has upheld a treasured tradition: the Senior Class All-Night Party. The students settle in for an evening of games, prizes, and the company of their classmates, staying overnight in the School's cafeteria. This event, taking place on the night of graduation, serves as a capstone celebration for our graduating students, and one final evening spent within the halls of their now alma mater. It's a symbol of unity, remembrance, and safe enjoyment.

More than just a party, this tradition plays a crucial role in promoting student safety on a night historically associated with risky behaviors. On graduation nights, teen drinking and driving incidents spike across the country–an issue of real concern to our community. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 300 teens have been involved in fatal drunk driving accidents during the week of graduation over the past decade. Holding our all-night party inside Wyoming Area High School ensures our young graduates stay safe during this critical time.

Despite its significance, there has been a decision to change the date of this year's Senior Class All-Night party to the evening before graduation, June 5th. The change would have students rushing to the all night party after the senior parade and senior sunset, and ending at 2:00 am the day of graduation, sending them onto the roads when bars close and tiring our seniors when they must report for graduation practice at 9:00 am. Not to mention veering away from our longstanding practice of scheduling it on the evening of graduation, June 6th. This is not just a shift in date; it is a deviation from a meaningful tradition and a safety measure that we have come to value deeply.

Let us keep our tradition alive and continue our commitment to our students' safety and unity. We urgently ask the Wyoming Area Senior class of 2025's Parent's Association to reconsider their decision and restore the date of the Wyoming Area Senior Class All-Night Party to June 6th, the night of graduation. Please sign this petition to help ensure that our historical tradition continues, and our students remain safe and celebrated on their important milestone.
