Restore the @worldwidewalls Instagram account
The Issue
Since 2011, our nonprofit organization has operated the @worldwidewalls Instagram account, dedicated to document and support global community beautification projects. This platform has been a tool for showcasing the work of artists around the world, providing them with a space for recognition and support. We have always been committed to honoring artists by giving proper credit to their work while ensuring that their creations were never monetized in any form by us.
Recently, Instagram removed the @worldwidewalls account, alleging copyright violations. This decision has not only disrupted our operations but also silenced a platform for many artists and community projects. Importantly, the very artists whose works were cited as infringing have expressed their support for our account, stating that they never reported any issues with our sharing of their creative content.
Our nonprofit has always been about community engagement and artistic collaboration, and the removal of our account undermines these foundational goals. We understand the significance of protecting intellectual property, which is precisely why we've adhered to strict ethics of credit and recognition.
We are now urgently calling on Meta and Instagram to conduct a human review of this case. Automated systems can sometimes misinterpret context, particularly in arts and community projects. We strongly believe that a manual review would reveal our continued compliance and demonstrate the genuine support from artists and communities.
We have dedicated over a decade to building this account, creating a meaningful network that uplifts and supports artists. By reinstating our account, Instagram can reaffirm its commitment to fostering positive community projects and supporting artists.
Please sign this petition and help us urge Meta and Instagram to restore the @worldwidewalls account so we can continue our mission of enriching communities through public art and supporting artists around the world.
If you are an artist whose work we have featured, your signature also helps demonstrate that you supported our sharing of your artwork and recognized it as a way to expand its reach and connect with new audiences. Your support sends a message that our account has been a resource for both artists and communities, and that its restoration matters. Thank you!
