On April 25th 2014 it was announced that the Star Wars Expanded Universe, which truly began with 1991's Heir To The Empire by Timothy Zahn (although there were novels, sourcebooks and comics before the novel's publication) would no longer be produced and be labeled as the Legends continuity. In the 11 years since its cancelation Star Wars has seen some of its worse years with many of the fans that once loved the franchise turning their backs on it. With one of the greatest complaints being that the stories outside of the movies and shows are not allowed to accomplish anything significant because anything significant has to be saved for the shows and movies.

Now knowing that there is an imminent change coming in Lucasfilm leadership it is time to bring back this incredible continuity not to replace the current continuity but to be published along side it. The continuity should be run exactly the same way that it was before Disney purchased Lucasfilm where the authors work together to create stories, with some oversight to make sure that things do not contradict with previously established lore.

The love for the EU has not died down over the years and fans have been supporting the many republished games, novels and comics. The publishing initiative of the Essential Legends Collection has been a massive success currently with 14 waves of novels that have released over the last 4 years.  Nearly all of the rereleased games besides the Battlefront collection and KOTOR 2's Nintendo Switch release also were successful and the issues with those two were due to the studio failing to properly bring these games to modern consoles. The MMO Star Wars The Old Republic has remained a popular and successful game with new expansions releasing. The love for this continuity and new stories is so great the unofficial paperback of the unreleased novel Heart Of The Jedi managed to sell extraordinarily well on Amazon making it to number three in the Science Fiction Adventures best sellers on Amazon before Lucasfilm and Disney shut it down. 

With the EU being restored Star Wars fans will be able to experience more stories with the characters they love that would never be able to exist in the current canon due to them contradicting the new lore. It will also be able to tell stories that can have an impact on the Star Wars galaxy since this will not have to tie in with anything that was not already created before the cancelation of the continuity. This also will serve as a great sign of Disney and Lucasfilm reaching out to the fans who have left due to them no longer caring about the new continuity.
