Our government, in its ideal state, could be compared to well trained sheepdog guarding the sheep. Unfortunately, it has slowly become as a fox, stealing from a henhouse. 

The government of the United States was designed based upon an understanding of the natural laws spoken of in the Declaration of Independence, the same laws which would require a sheepdog to guard the sheep or prevent a fox from guarding a henhouse.

This petition seeks to reel in the federal government: restoring proper balance it and the people and the state governments.

What sense does it make to petition the federal government to limit itself when it won't do so anyway? It is a formality so that the government officials can't deny being asked to limit the government as it was designed, which then makes them accountable to further actions and perhaps even more accountable to the natural laws which run everything in this world.

Members of the government, this petition calls upon all government officials to honor their oaths to the Constitution - most especially upholding the principles of limited government laid out within the Constitution, as sold to the people in the Federalist papers, and as included in the ratifying conventions and documents. It calls for reeling in the federal usurpation of power, and restoration of the Republic.

The Constitution, and what came to be known as the Bill of Rights, was meant to limit and balance power of the Federal government - it was not meant to limit the power or rights of the people. The Federal government was put into a BOX of specific powers which made sense for its role. Examples include: dealing with disagreements between states; delivering the mail; and interacting with other countries via treaties or declaring war. 

Over time, the federal government, with the help of factions in politics and the ignorance of the people, has creatively interpreted many clauses to extend its power, most notably via the general welfare and interstate commerce clauses; and by ignoring the plain language in many amendments which would further limit its power, most notably the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th, and 10th. This upset in the balance of power between the people, the states, and the federal government puts the whole Union in jeopardy of failure. The cause is ignorance of and failing to respect the natural laws written of in the Declaration of Independence. Again, in short, don't allow a fox to guard a henhouse!

Quoting from the preamble to what became known as the Bill of Rights: "THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution."

Take note that the additional clauses were added to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, not to limit the rights of the people! That there is even a discussion of gun control, press control, and so forth is proof that this Republic is in jeopardy. That the federal government would attempt to exert control over the minds in the states via the Department of Education (federal) is further proof of grave danger.

Additional reading of many of the state ratifying conventions and the federalist papers will demonstrate that the Constitution was sold to the people on the basis that its power would be LIMITED!

This petition is for all officials acting as part of the federal, state, and local governments to honor their oaths and restore the balance of power by restoring a strict construction (interpretation) of the general welfare clause, interstate commerce clause, and other clauses which have been used to usurp power. The balance of power is in place, by design, to:

"divide authority between federal and state governments for the protection of individuals. State sovereignty is not just an end in itself: "Rather, federalism secures to citizens the liberties that derive from the diffusion of sovereign power" (See 1992 Supreme Court opinion on the framers’ reasoning behind the state consent requirement - New York v. U.S )
