PETITION TO PARAMOUNT PICTURES

RESTORE THE HONOR OF JIM PHELPS
"Leadership. Loyalty. Legacy."

---

To: Paramount Pictures Executives and Creative Teams
From: The Fans of *Mission: Impossible* and Supporters of Peter Graves’ Legacy

Our Request

We, the undersigned, respectfully demand that Paramount Pictures acknowledge and rectify the unjust portrayal of Jim Phelps**—the original leader of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF)—in the 1996 *Mission: Impossible* film. We urge you to:
1. Retcon the Betrayal: Restore Jim Phelps’ integrity in future *Mission: Impossible* projects, reaffirming his role as a loyal leader.
2. Honor Peter Graves’ Legacy: Issue an official statement recognizing Graves’ iconic portrayal and the damage done to his character’s legacy.
3. Create a Tribute: Include a dedication or archival footage in future films celebrating the original TV series and its heroes.

Why This Matters

 1. Jim Phelps Was a Cultural Icon

For seven seasons (1966–1973), Jim Phelps, portrayed by Peter Graves embodied teamwork, strategic brilliance, and moral clarity. He led the IMF with quiet authority, teaching generations of viewers about loyalty and leadership. Turning him into a traitor in the 1996 film *betrayed his legacy* and disrespected decades of storytelling.

2. Peter Graves Deserves Respect

Peter Graves refused to reprise his role in the 1996 film, calling the script’s twist “a terrible mistake.” By retconning Phelps as a villain, the film tarnished Graves’ contributions to the franchise he helped build. Graves’ family and fans deserve better.

3. Fans Demand Integrity
The original *Mission: Impossible* series inspired loyalty because it celebrated heroes who *never quit on their team*. Reducing Phelps to a power-hungry traitor prioritized shock value over substance—and alienated the fans who made the franchise legendary.    Our Demands

- **Retcon the Retcon**: Use future films, spin-offs, or special features to clarify that the 1996 betrayal was a misdirection or make it clear that the Jim Phelps who was the traitor was actually an imposter!
- **Public Apology**: Acknowledge the harm caused to the character’s legacy and Graves’ family.
- **Tribute to the Original IMF**: Add a title card, documentary short, or special edition Blu-ray celebrating the TV series’ cast and creators.
