Tarrant County's Commissioners Court just voted to eliminate 92 Election Day polling places before the November elections, cutting the county from 316 sites in 2022 down to only 224 for more than 1.3 million registered voters. The three Republican commissioners on the court also rejected amendments that would have restored voting locations on the University of Texas at Arlington campus and at Tarrant County College's northeast and south campuses, along with a widely used site at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

For students, working families, and voters without reliable transportation, a nearby polling place can be the difference between casting a ballot and being shut out entirely. Tarrant County Democratic Party Chair Dr. Allison Campolo said the county "lost some of our most important college campuses during early voting and over a third of our polling locations on election day."

Access to the ballot shouldn't depend on how far someone can travel or which precinct survived a budget vote. We're calling on County Judge Tim O'Hare and Commissioners Matt Krause and Manny Ramirez to reverse this decision, restore the closed campus and community sites, and fund transportation for voters whose nearest polling place was eliminated, so no one in Tarrant County loses their vote to a shortened list of locations.
