The Issue

I am personally appealing as a nearly 50-year veteran of the New Mexico real estate industry. My heart for our profession and its sustainable future drives me to voice our concerns about the critical situation surrounding the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC). Recent actions by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department have sidestepped the Commission’s authority, imperiling the integrity of an industry central to our state's economy.

Our focus is twofold—restoring staffing levels at the NMREC and ensuring transparency and accountability in the application of statutory budget requirements. It is not just about maintaining proper structures; it is about ensuring the NMREC continues to fulfill its core mission of protecting the public and serving constituent licensees.

Over time, inadequate staffing and misappropriated budgets have placed a significant toll on infrastructural capacity. Our ability to regulate effectively, adjudicate complaints, and safeguard the public interest is becoming eroded progressively. The real estate industry in New Mexico is interconnected significantly with the state’s economy. Disruptions to this intricate balance could jeopardize local communities' thriving.

Therefore, we request the New Mexico government and the Regulation and Licensing Department to respect the independence and functionality of the NMREC. It is high time to reverse the deleterious impacts of current policies and reinforce the commission in its duties.

We implore you to side with us and thousands of responsible property professionals in showing our firm unwavering support for the restoration of full functionality to the NMREC. Your signature on this petition is not only a vote for our real estate industry; it is a strong stand for good governance. It's a declaration that the pillars of accountability, transparency, and public service must continue to be the NMREC's guiding principles. Please help us safeguard the future of New Mexico's real estate industry by signing this petition today.
