Restore Senior Privilege: Make good on your promises

The Issue

Dear fellow students, parents, and concerned citizens,

The recent changes made by the new administration in regard to senior privilege without the adequate consent of the student and parent bodies caught us all by surprise. We wish for a reversal of this decision, and a space to debate with the administration on equal footing, but we need the support of all the students and parents to be taken seriously during negotiations.

Senior privileges have long been a symbol of trust and responsibility granted to graduating students. We have been told over and over again throughout assemblies and by our teachers that we will be granted the same senior privileges as the prior graduating classes, including that we could leave during lunch, flex, and studies, granted that we didn't have any prior commitments with teachers, counselors, or otherwise, and to have this taken away because of the actions of a few is an insult to the many.

This decision appeared out of the blue, without significant consultation of the RMHS families, as can be seen by the high level of backlash already on Facebook groups and Email. We wish that the administration had taken time to consult and consider its own community, instead of taking the easy road, punishing everyone for the mistakes of a select few.

We urge the new administration to reconsider its decision and work with us to find alternative solutions that address any concerns while preserving our senior privileges. We call upon all students, parents, and supporters to sign this petition and join us in our effort to restore these privileges for the benefit of current and future graduating classes. The legacy of the class of 2024 needs to be a positive one, not the class who stood idly by and let our privileges be taken away for the classes that come behind us.

Sign this petition today to stand up for our promised senior privileges
