The Issue

Growing up, I always admired the strength and resilience of Afghan women. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, and backbone of their communities. For too long, Afghan women have been denied basic human rights and the freedom to live their lives in peace. The recent socio-political turmoil has only exacerbated the hardships they face daily, leading to a devastating impact on their education, employment, and freedom of movement.

Afghan women deserve their rights back. The right to education, to work, to freely express themselves, and to live without fear of oppression and violence are fundamental. According to UN Women, since the recent takeover, 2.5 million girls, whose ages range from primary schooling to higher education, are deprived of access to education. The World Economic Forum ranks Afghanistan as one of the worst countries in terms of gender parity, which speaks volumes of the discrimination and hardships Afghan women endure.

The international community cannot stand by as these injustices continue. We know from the period of progress in the 2000s that when Afghan women are empowered, they contribute significantly not only to their families but to the broader societal fabric. They deserve the chance to thrive, not merely survive.

We call upon international and regional bodies, such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, to enforce measures that will restore peace and uphold the rights of Afghan women. These include increasing international diplomatic pressure, easing visa restrictions for threatened women and activists, and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those most in need.

Your support can make a significant difference. By signing this petition, you are not only supporting Afghan women in reclaiming their rights but also standing up for justice, equality, and peace. Let us come together to amplify their voices and catalyze change that restores hope and dignity to their lives.

Please sign this petition and share it widely. Let's ensure a future where Afghan women live in peace, dignity, and equality.
