The Issue

When the communities of El Segundo and Wiseburn came together with a collaborative vision to establish the Wiseburn El Segundo Aquatics Center, it was a triumph of shared values and goals. Our children learned the joys of swimming there, and it became a vital gathering place for both recreation and community building. However, circumstances have recently changed, leaving many residents of Wiseburn feeling unfairly marginalized.

Firstly, the opening of the new plunge in El Segundo has resulted in the significant reduction of Recc swim hours at the Wiseburn El Segundo Aquatics Center. Swimming is not just a leisurely activity for our children but a crucial life skill that ensures their safety and provides them with the exercise they need to lead healthy lives. The sudden cutback in hours has disrupted their regular swimming routines, which is distressing to us as parents who prioritize their well-being.

On top of this, Wiseburn residents are being unfairly penalized with non-resident fees during the Recc swim hours at the new plunge in El Segundo. We were not informed that these changes would occur, and there was no consultation or communication from the managing bodies explaining or justifying these decisions. This lack of transparency is concerning and signals a disregard for the parents and children who rely on these facilities.

We understand that balancing the needs of two collaborative communities can be challenging. However, we firmly believe there are solutions that can accommodate both El Segundo and Wiseburn residents equitably. We humbly request that additional Recc swim hours be reinstated at the Wiseburn El Segundo Aquatics Center so our children can enjoy swimming in the outdoor facility they know and love. If it is not feasible, then fees should be adjusted so that Wiseburn residents are not financially disadvantaged by being charged as non-residents.

Together, let’s protect the legacy of cooperation that birthed the aquatics center and ensure it serves all it was meant to. Please join us in advocating for our children's right to swim and exercise freely and fairly. Sign this petition to make a positive change for Wiseburn residents.
