Restore Public Comment at Franklin County Commission Meetings

The Issue

Franklin County residents deserve the opportunity to address their elected officials during public meetings.

The recent decision to eliminate public comment at Franklin County Commission meetings removes an important avenue for citizens to voice concerns, ask questions, and participate in local government. While commissioners have the authority to conduct meetings efficiently, completely eliminating public input reduces transparency and accountability.

The First Amendment protects the right of citizens to petition their government for redress of grievances. Public comment periods provide a structured and respectful way for residents to communicate directly with the officials they elected.

We respectfully request that the Franklin County Commission restore a public comment period at regular commission meetings and adopt reasonable rules that allow all citizens an opportunity to be heard.

Our county government works best when it listens to the people it serves.
