In San Benito, Texas, our community thrives on shared traditions and the collective spirit of support that brings us together. For decades, the pride of our town has been embodied by the unwavering support for our hometown football team, the Mighty Greyhounds. Every Friday night, under the dazzling stadium lights, our community comes alive as fans, parents, children, and even the elderly gather to cheer for our team. It's a tradition that has stood the test of time, fostering unity and a sense of belonging among all residents.

Recently, one of our two cherished water towers was controversially altered to showcase the motto "The Soul of South Texas." This change was proposed by a former city manager and our tax-paying citizens have been left with the financial burden of this ill-fated endeavor.

This is not a reflection of the true soul of San Benito. The real heartbeat of our town is found in the resilience and loyalty of its people, especially through the shared excitement of supporting our football team. It's time to honor what genuinely binds us together and restore our water tower to reflect the legacy of the Mighty Greyhounds.

The new motto may have had good intentions, but it overshadowed the essence of who we are. By dedicating the water tower to our esteemed football team, we would not only rekindle a crucial part of our local heritage but also celebrate the enduring pride and unity of San Benito.

We urge our local government to reconsider the motto on the water tower and allow the people of San Benito to have a say in this crucial matter. Let's align the symbol of our town with what truly represents us. Restoring the Greyhound heritage on our water tower would exemplify our collective values and history.

Let’s work together to make this change happen. Sign this petition to express to our local leaders that the spirit of San Benito lies in its community and its team, the Mighty Greyhounds. Help us reclaim the symbol of our town's true identity and preserve a beloved tradition for future generations.

If local businesses, families and sponsors want to do so we can also collectively contribute financially to restore the water tower to its original glory.
