Friends and neighbors, on behalf of everyone who signed this petition, we sent a formal letter to Mayor Amatorio and the Bergenfield Borough Council demanding Action.

The problem: For four straight years, every resident seat on the Traffic Safety Committee has sat empty. The Borough Administrator has confirmed—twice—that only the Mayor and Council can fill them. This isn't an oversight. It's a repeated choice to shut residents out of decisions about the streets we walk, bike, and drive every day.  "There is no need to have residents involved in public safety-related matters." — Corey Gallo, Borough Administrator

Why it matters: 

Why now: Since January 2022, 107 pedestrians and cyclists have been struck in Bergenfield — 16 this year alone. As per OPRA. Every number is a neighbor, a child, a family.

Our demands:

1. Reinstate town representatives'  seats, giving parents, pedestrians,  school crossing guards, and bike advocates a voice. 
   
   
2. Transparent appointments at the 2027 Reorganization Meeting.
   For the Mayor to appoint resident representatives — including pedestrian and bike safety advocates — to the Traffic Safety Committee at the 2027 Reorganization Meeting, as the ordinance requires.
3. Restore open public meetings — publishing agendas and minutes on the Borough website to promote transparency.

We already have residents ready to serve. What's missing is the Governing Body's willingness to appoint.
