Welcome to all our new supporters - now a grand total of 555.
It is a while since the last update but unfortunately, it has been just more of the same over the last 2 weeks. We have extra illegal travellers on the car park who have been charging unsuspecting visitors to park. These visitors then of course did not purchase a legal ticket and some have been issued with a parking fine. We understand that no action has been taken against these illegal travellers who have now been evicted from the site.
This has yet again resulted in a shortage of car parking and NO coach parking during the very busy final weekend of the illuminatons and during the school half term period with a loss of another 39 car parking spaces. This means a drop in visitor numbers to the village during the last busy time before Christmas. The Parish Council has received reports of intimidation from those using the car park.
On Friday 22nd November the 'Lights of Abaraham' opens for its Christmas season. There will be no coach parking facility for this and at least 22 of the car parking spaces in the car park will be lost. This will not only effect the Heights of Abaraham but also the other businesses in the village who will open to welcome those coming to this event. Again more valuable loss of income to the businesses and to DDDC in car and coach park income.
The C&E committee which will decide the future temporary tolerated traveller sites meets on 21st November. We have yet to ascertain whether the report on the survey carried out will be ready for discussion despite asking for timescales. We urge you all to prepare letters of complaint on the use of the Station Car Park as a future site to send in to the council before this meeting. Send them to travellers@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
