El problema

We call on NASBA to reinstate its Experience Verification Service and provide a clear public update on whether the service is temporarily suspended, being redesigned, or permanently discontinued.

Passing all four sections of the CPA Exam requires a major investment of time, effort, and money. Yet many candidates remain unable to obtain a license because their professional experience was not supervised by a U.S.-licensed CPA.

This particularly affects international candidates and professionals working in private industry, financial services, government, or smaller organizations. Many have years of relevant accounting experience supervised by qualified professionals, but no practical way to obtain the specific verification required by certain State Boards.

NASBA’s Experience Verification Service provided an important solution. It allowed a licensed CPA to independently review a candidate’s employment history, responsibilities, and professional competence. It did not reduce licensing standards; it provided a fair way to prove that those standards had been met.

Without this service, qualified candidates may be forced to repeat years of work solely to obtain the signature of a U.S. CPA, even when their existing experience is relevant and verifiable.

We ask NASBA to:

Reinstate the Experience Verification Service;
Publish a clear update on its current status;
Provide a timeline for reopening applications;
Introduce a transitional process for candidates already affected; and
Create an equivalent independent verification route if the former service cannot be restored.
CPA licensure should be based on the quality and relevance of a candidate’s experience, not simply on whether they happened to work under a U.S.-licensed CPA.

Please sign this petition to ask NASBA to restore a fair and rigorous path to CPA licensure.
