Restore Lake Redding's historic 9-hole golf course
The Issue
For generations, the Lake Redding 9-hole golf course has been a cherished sanctuary for families, seniors, friends, and children alike. Since I first stepped foot on its lush greens in the 1970s, it has been a place of profound enjoyment, community bonding, and historical significance for the good people of Redding, California. Unfortunately, this historic gem, owned by the McConnell Foundation, was closed last year and is now in the process of being converted into a mere practice facility. This transformation threatens to erase the rich legacy the Lake Redding golf course has cultivated over decades. Families have celebrated birthdays, seniors have enjoyed life's moments in the company of friends, and children have learned the timeless values of sportsmanship here. The course, in its original form, was a testament to the artistry and beauty that golf brings, acting not only as a recreational venue but as a cornerstone of our community's culture and history. Redding deserves to keep this piece of its heritage alive. Instead of turning it into a practice facility, we have the opportunity to restore it to the beautiful course it once was. This course was not just land with holes; it was where memories were forged, friendships were strengthened, and life's simple joys were experienced. There was Wednesday night and Friday morning scrambles, summer Saturday night glow in the dark and Sunday sunrise scrambles. We urge the McConnell Foundation to reconsider their plans and invest in restoring Lake Redding's historic golf course. By doing so, they will honor decades of community engagements, respect the local history, and provide a recreational haven for all future generations. Join me, along with fellow Redding residents, in calling upon the McConnell Foundation to restore and revive this beloved in historic site. Please sign this petition to show your support, to safeguard our community's past, and to ensure the meaningful continuation of Lake Redding's legacy.
