I want to briefly clarify and close the loop on my previous update.

After my last update post was shared, the people caring for the African Grey parrot decided that the bird should remain on the Big Island, and not travel to Oahu. Their decision is completely understandable. Many caregivers, when faced with sanctuary or relocation options, understandably want to spare a vulnerable bird the stress and risk associated with air transport in a cargo hold.

I respect that choice and appreciate the care and thought behind it.

This outcome underscores the larger issue at hand: When in-cabin options are unavailable, caregivers are often forced to choose between not traveling at all or subjecting birds to transport conditions they consider unacceptable. In many cases, that means access to rehoming, sanctuary placement, or specialized veterinary care simply does not happen, or becomes severely limited.

It raises difficult but necessary questions: Why are caregivers placed in this position in the first place? And why should bird owners be forced to choose between compassion and responsible care for a vulnerable animal, versus denying that compassionate care due to transport conditions they believe to be unsafe or inhumane?

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow and engage with this issue thoughtfully and compassionately.
