Dear Supporters,
I want to provide an update based on recent publications regarding the ongoing situation at the Cleveland Ballet.
As reported by Paris Wolfe on Cleveland.com, the petition calling for the reinstatement of suspended Cleveland Ballet artistic director Gladisa Guadalupe may not have an impact on the investigation into workplace misconduct allegations at the non-profit dance company, according to ballet board chair Michael Frank.
The board's suspension of Guadalupe and her husband, Michael Krasnyansky, the co-founder and former president and CEO, remains under investigation by Stephen Sozio of the Jones Day law firm. Frank emphasized that the petition for Guadalupe's reinstatement will not influence the ongoing probe.
However, there are concerns about the impartiality of the investigation, given that the external firm leading the investigation, Jones Day, has connections with two associates who are the members of the Cleveland Ballet's Board. This connection between the investigating firm and the organization's governing body may cast doubt on the investigation's impartiality and independence.
The complexities surrounding the allegations have prompted the board to ensure a fair and thorough examination of the issues. Despite this, the Cleveland Ballet's dancers are diligently preparing for the upcoming production of 'The Nutcracker' and are committed to sharing this holiday tradition with our community.
It's important to note that the investigation's specifics regarding the allegations against Guadalupe and Krasnyansky remain undisclosed. The petition, initiated by Svetlana Stolyarova, has gathered 497 digital signatures at the time of this writing, advocating for Guadalupe's reinstatement.
While the petition underscores allegations of "body size discrimination against a dance instructor," Chairman Frank's statement clarifies that the suspension is not solely related to this specific claim. He emphasized that this particular allegation, among others, was explored by the external investigators but did not directly lead to the suspensions.
The lack of detailed disclosure about the investigation by the ballet board has led to frustrations among supporters. Stolyarova expressed determination to continue advocating for Guadalupe's reinstatement, emphasizing the concerns of those who cherish the Cleveland Ballet.
As developments unfold, it remains crucial for us to follow the investigation's course while remaining steadfast in our commitment to transparency, fairness, and the preservation of the Cleveland Ballet's legacy.
We will continue monitoring the situation and advocating for clarity, fairness, and the welfare of the Cleveland Ballet. Your unwavering support is deeply appreciated during this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Svetlana Stolyarova
