Restore Funding for Neighbourhood Networks in East Renfrewshire

Restore Funding for Neighbourhood Networks in East Renfrewshire
The Issue
We, members, parents, carers, and concerned citizens, urge the East Renfrewshire HSCP to reconsider and reverse the decision to withdraw funding with effect from 30 September from Neighbourhood Networks
We believe that this decision is an injustice that will have far-reaching negative consequences for individuals who are already marginalised and face daily challenges. The removal of funding will severely impact opportunities for neurodivergent people and people with learning disabilities to establish social connections and engage in human interaction, leading to increased isolation and loneliness.
This decision also fails to align with the aims of the HSCP Strategic Plan 2022-2025, which commits to:
- Valuing what matters to people
- Building capacity with individuals and communities
- Focusing on outcomes, not just services
The withdrawal of funding disproportionately affects the disabled community, risking further discrimination against a vulnerable group. The reduction in support services directly contradicts the goal of improving lives in East Renfrewshire and research evidence shows that this may lead to additional costs in the longer term.
Therefore, we speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and challenge this decision. We respectfully request that the decision be annulled and that funding for Neighbourhood Networks be fully restored.
We believe that by doing so, East Renfrewshire can continue to build a more inclusive and supportive community, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
