In Jammu & Kashmir, schools traditionally observed a Friday half-day holiday for decades. This system was introduced keeping in mind the religious and cultural needs of the people, especially Muslim students and teachers, so that they could attend the congregational Jumma Namaz peacefully.

 

Unfortunately, this Friday half-day has now been discontinued. As a result, thousands of students and teachers face difficulty in performing their religious obligation, since school timings clash with the time of Friday prayers.

 

Education is important, but so is the right to practice one’s faith. Restoring the Friday half-day holiday will not harm academics—it will only provide relief and respect to the cultural identity of the people of J&K.

 

👉 We demand:

 

1. The Education Department of J&K to reinstate the Friday half-day holiday in schools.

 

2. At least in Muslim-majority districts, Friday school timing should end before Jumma Namaz.

 

3. Respect for the cultural and religious traditions of Jammu & Kashmir’s diverse population.
