The Haddonfield Board of Commissioners will meet in the Borough Hall tonight (Monday, September 25, 2023) at 7:30pm.
Although “Parking” is not on the agenda, it will be possible for members of the public to make statements and ask questions about parking at a designated time during the meeting.
IF YOU'RE UNHAPPY about changes the commissioners have made to parking in Haddonfield, it’s INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that you show up, stand up, and speak up.
- Tell the commissioners what your customers are saying.
- Tell them how the new system has affected your business – generally, in the evenings, and on Saturdays.
- Ask them to explain how the new system is better for businesses.
- Ask them to explain how the new system is better for shoppers, clients, diners, and visitors to town.
- Ask them to explain why traditional parking meters continue to work well in Haddon Township, but not in Haddonfield.
- Ask them whether money received from parking is dedicated to maintenance and improvements in the business district or whether it goes into general revenue.
- Ask them to explain what happened to the “Clean & Green” program, which was to provide “ambassadors” who would stroll the sidewalks, answering questions, giving directions, picking up litter, and helping shoppers learn how to use the parking app and the kiosks. (If ever they were needed, it's now!)
- Ask them to explain why they spent money on hundreds of signs reading “Mon-Fri 9am-6pm,” only to change them a few months later by applying a sticker reading “Mon-Sat 9am-8pm.” Was it to lull merchants into a false sense of security? Did the original plan not generate enough revenue? What's the real reason?
- Ask them to tell you to what extent the Partnership for Haddonfield was actively involved in the decision-making process for this new scheme. If minimally or not at all, ask why.
- Ask them to tell you the Borough phone number that irate customers should call to complain. (Suggest they provide merchants with stacks of business cards with that phone number on them.)
- And, finally, ask them to commit – during the meeting on Monday night – to FIXING THE PROBLEMS. Promptly.
