The Issue

As deadly tornadoes tore through the Midwest, search-and-rescue teams deployed without FEMA’s tornado-tracking tool — a system that pinpoints damage paths within minutes and helps first responders focus on the hardest-hit areas.

Why? Because a $200,000 contract was allowed to lapse by Kristi Noem.

In disasters, minutes matter. When storms strike at night, accurate mapping can mean the difference between finding survivors quickly — or missing them.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about preparedness.

With hurricane season approaching and more severe weather ahead, FEMA must have every critical tool available — without bureaucratic delays.

We call on the Department of Homeland Security to immediately renew FEMA’s tornado-tracking contract and ensure that life-saving disaster tools are never stalled by red tape again.

Restore FEMA’s tornado tracker.
Lives depend on it.
