Petition to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India

India's transition towards ethanol-blended fuel is an important step towards reducing dependence on imported crude oil, improving energy security, lowering emissions, and supporting Indian farmers. These are national objectives that deserve recognition and support.

However, every major policy transition should also consider the practical realities faced by consumers.

Millions of petrol vehicles purchased before the widespread rollout of E20-compatible vehicles are still operating on Indian roads. While the Government maintains that E20 has been scientifically tested for compatible vehicles, many consumers have expressed concerns regarding mileage, compatibility, maintenance costs, and the lack of fuel choice.

Whether these concerns are ultimately proven right or wrong, consumers deserve transparency and the freedom to choose the fuel that best suits their vehicle during the transition.

We respectfully request the Government of India to:

1. Restore E10 petrol as an optional fuel for the next five years alongside E20.

This will allow owners of older petrol vehicles to make an informed choice while India continues its transition toward E20.

2. Continue making E20 widely available.

This petition is not against E20. Citizens who own E20-compatible vehicles should continue to have easy access to E20.

3. Improve transparency.

Publish independent long-term studies on mileage, compatibility, maintenance, and the impact of E20 on older petrol vehicles so that consumers can make informed decisions based on evidence.

4. Improve public awareness.

Ensure that petrol pumps clearly display vehicle compatibility information so consumers know which fuel is appropriate for their vehicle.

5. Adopt a gradual and consumer-friendly transition.

Future movement towards higher ethanol blends should happen only after compatible vehicles, infrastructure, and consumer awareness are sufficiently widespread.

This Petition Is Not Against Progress

We support cleaner fuels.

We support reducing India's dependence on imported crude oil.

We support policies that increase farmers' income.

Our request is simple.

Progress should not come at the cost of consumer choice.

A policy becomes stronger when people adopt it because they trust it—not because they have no practical alternative.

India can achieve both environmental progress and consumer confidence.

We believe restoring E10 as an option during the transition is a balanced, practical, and consumer-friendly approach.
