Update: Spottswood demands apology from protestor for telling the truth in fence case!
On August 17, 2021, members of the N. Cow Key Boaters Association were doing a scheduled cleanup of Dinghy Beach. One of Spottswood's rusting fence pieces was loose and a danger to the cleaners, so one of the cleaners moved it to the City's designated recycling can out of the way. Long story short, Marriott Beachside management got pissed and called the KWPD on the beach cleaner for Class 3 felony theft. Yeah, bear with me here, it gets better...
Beach cleaner had notified County, FDEP and City Mayor of the clean up of the public beach, but Spottswoof's minions refused to acknowledge the cleanup and lied to KWPD that the beach belonged to them and the moved anodizing 1 1/2yr. old fence panel cost "thousands" "$2000!", thereby committing misdemeanor charge of lying to the KWPD during the research of a crime. Luckily these lies are on body-cam, and the proof that the fence panel only cost approx. $200 is now in the courts hands after Spottswoof had to answer a Subpeona for the records. Well, not only does it show the alleged "theft" charge to be over trumped as a felony, but the fence receipt had been in the liars' hands all along. Yes, Marriott GM Galvan and Maintenance Mgr. Wilder who made the false statements to the cops about the fence cost, knew the fence panel cost wasn't qualified as a felony, but instead a misdemeanor charge at best. But a misdemeanor doesn't get one arrested, which is what Marriott wanted for the beach cleaner that had been protesting their unpermitted fence since they put it up.
Now, the plot thickens...the State offered the alleged felony beach cleaner/thief a PreTrial Intervention (i.e. pay a fine & apologize for moving the fence) since the alleged "thief" had a clean record. BUT - at the very last minute demands that the alleged beach cleaning fence panel "thief" (that would be me) make a widened apology:
Mary Spottswood, Spottswoof's daughter in law, states: "Accusing my father and or the company of filing false police reports, lying, erecting a fence illegally, and stealing a beach is not an opinion, it is a statement of fact...she can have whatever opinion she would like about us, but we are asking her to retract the statements of fact she made related to this case... "
Well, Mary is right about that, the statements I made were facts (backed up by legal documents) and she, a Florida State Bar atty, didn't do her homework, otherwise she wouldn't now be calling me, the beach cleaning fence-mover, in essence, a liar. She's wrong that my calling her Daddy a liar and thief in the past is related to my moving the fence though.
Mary goes further to say:
"If she (I) would rather go to trial over not wanting to take back the false statements she made about my father and the company then that is her right...we can go to trial.." I.e. Mary wants me to apologize for calling her Daddy and his deceitful employees liars over the course of a year prior to this incident and six months after - something totally unrelated to this case of alleged "fence-theivery". The Bubba-loving State Attorney's Office is kissing her butt (of course) and backing her up, no matter how unethical this is, or sounds, and the judge says it's none of his business. Yeah, ethics in a court room are never anyone's business...unless they are those of the defendant's. We get it.
Now, I'm not sure what "false statements" she means, but I'd say Mary sounds just as entitled and unethical as her father-in-law in this matter by asking me to lie about his dubious behavior concerning the beach fence, because she's upset that Daddy is butthurt that he got called out, wouldn't you? Yeah - Truth is a bitch, Mary...
For the record, I've been honest about everything I've said to you all, the City, the Court, KWPD and Florida State employees associated with this matter and will continue to do so. Spottswood did not and does not own the property (even if the corrupt City allowed him to lease it) and he and his staff have been lying and deceiving when it comes to Dinghy Beach's ownership all along.
Court date scheduled - May 8th - 9:00 - Judge Jones. Trial by Jury.
Thank you all for your support to date, I appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Christine
