Dear all 124,134 of you,
It’s been a while since our last update — but today, I’m writing with hope.
This month, we met with MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy to speak about the issue many of you have stood behind: the right of refugee children to feel safe, valued, and human. We discussed the cruel and unnecessary removal of artwork from asylum accommodation — an act that strips away dignity from children who have already endured more than most of us can imagine.
We shared with Bell the incredible wave of public support you’ve all built. She listened. She understood. And she’s committed to helping us take this campaign even further.
This is the first political engagement our campaign has since this Government has been in place. We’re gaining momentum, but we’ll need your continued support. Please stay tuned — we’ll be calling on you again soon to take action.
With anti-migrant sentiment is escalating across the UK again, we need compassion now more than ever. Without it, the most vulnerable — children, families, people seeking safety — will be the ones who suffer.
To those feeling afraid or disheartened, I want to share the words of Nish Kumar, a supporter of this campaign:
“We’re the children and grandchildren of the people who defied them the first time around. So it’s okay to be scared, but learn the lessons our mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers taught us: stand your ground, be brave — and we’ll be okay.”
Let’s keep fighting — with all the compassion and courage.
