The Avery Hill Winter Garden is still closed and much of the interior derelict. The Friends of Avery Hill Park are calling on Royal Greenwich Council to apply for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to enable a full restoration.

The Friends would like to see the space become a thriving hub for leisure, education, community functions and horticultural excellence which would restore the Victorian glasshouse to its former glory, linking with the historic features of Col North's former mansion.

Two recent bids to the Government's Levelling Up Fund have been unsuccessful.

Chair of the Friends group John Webb said: "The Winter Garden can become a source of great pride to the borough to be enjoyed freely for people of all ages and backgrounds.

"The council have been trying hard to make this happen but it needs one final push to get it over the line."
