Restore Australia Hall back to its former glory

The issue

Restoration and preservation of Australia Hall (ANZAC Hall), Pembroke, Malta

I call upon the Maltese authorities to restore and preserve Australia Hall which to me is a unique and irreplaceable piece of World War I and ANZAC history.

Built in 1915, Australia Hall served as a welfare centre for wounded ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) soldiers who were sent to Malta to recover after  Gallipoli campaign in Turkey. Malta, known as the "Nurse of the Mediterranean", cared for over 58,000 ANZAC troops during the war, and this building was central to their healing and recovery.

Sadly, Australia Hall has suffered years of neglect, vandalism, and a fire in 1998. The building is in ruins and nothing has been done to take care, preserve or restore it. I have passed by Australia Hall several times without taking notice of its meaning however after researching, the building symbolises the Maltese values of social welfare and nursery, values that should be linking to the island's ideology in modern times.

I want to spread awareness and commit to the full restoration of Australia Hall as a memorial, museum, or cultural center dedicated to ANZAC and WWI history. I want the authorities in ownership of the site to be protected  from further degradation and enforce its heritage status to everyone.
If possible, collaboration with Australian and New Zealand members in charge and historical institutions to fund and oversee the restoration should be enacted. It is ideal to involve the public through heritage campaigns, educational programs, and remembrance events tied to the site's history.

Restoring Australia Hall would be a powerful gesture of remembrance as it would be a living tribute to sacrifice, and an educational legacy for Malta, Australia, New Zealand, and ultimatley...the world.
