I am a single mother of two, striving to cope with the soaring food prices amidst economic uncertainty. Our survival is greatly threatened by the recent hacking of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) system. Criminals have hijacked these essential benefits that we and many other families struggling during these difficult times rely on.

Several SNAP beneficiaries, like myself, have been left in the dark, devoid of any information regarding the security breach. The administrative response has been lackluster and insufficient, with no real action taken for reimbursement or remediation of our stolen benefits. The paltry solution offered is merely a replacement card, which in no way compensates for the lost food support.

This state of affairs is unacceptable. SNAP helps near 42 million Americans put food on their tables (USDA, 2021). It’s a lifeline for families like mine who are battling unfavorable circumstances. By failing to protect our benefits and respond effectively to such theft, the government is denying us our rightful, life-saving aid.

We call for immediate comprehensive measures by the concerned authorities to restore our stolen SNAP benefits and to implement robust, foolproof security protocols that prevent any such breaches in the future.
