Restore Access to Heating and Hot Water for a Family Left Without Gas

Restore Access to Heating and Hot Water for a Family Left Without Gas
The Issue
My name is Kristina. I am a parent of six children, five of whom live at home and are under the age of 16. I am seeking public support regarding a prolonged loss of gas supply that has left my household without heating or hot water for over a year.
The gas supply to our home was disconnected following a dispute concerning the type of gas meter installed at the property. After Phoenix Energy carried out a scheduled five-year regulator test in October 2024, I was advised that the existing meter type was not permitted by my housing provider. I immediately requested that a keypad (prepayment) meter be reinstalled as a resolution. This request was refused, and the gas supply has remained disconnected since.
As a result, my family has been living without heating or hot water for an extended period. This has caused significant hardship, particularly given that one of my children is a newborn. The situation has also created wider housing instability, as the lack of a gas supply is now being relied upon in housing enforcement discussions.
I am not seeking to undermine safety requirements. I am asking for a fair, proportionate, and transparent route to resolution, including clear guidance on what steps would allow the gas supply to be safely reinstated.
This situation raises broader concerns about how families are supported when disputes arise between utility providers and housing bodies, particularly where prolonged loss of essential services occurs and no clear resolution pathway is offered.
I am asking Phoenix Energy to reconsider their position and to work towards a safe and reasonable solution that restores access to heating and hot water. I am also asking for greater oversight to ensure that families are not left without essential utilities for prolonged periods without a clear appeals or remediation process.
If you believe that access to basic utilities such as heating and hot water should be handled fairly, transparently, and with regard to household welfare, please consider supporting this petition.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for any support you are able to offer.
