The Issue

Music is one of the greatest tools for education for all in Blue Valley. Anybody can enjoy music. Whether or not you’re athletic, a scholar, or among your average students in abilities, you can enjoy and thrive in music. Musical education is something that can bond ALL students alike, and these new funding cuts have completely buckled the legs of these beautifully crafted foundations indefinitely.

These cuts take away vital things from all schools in this incredible district. People have moved states and even countries to come to a BV school, so why take away something that many students have an immense passion for? These budget cuts cut out many important, seemingly minimal parts to rehearsal processes, such as fully taking away accompanists for all Blue Valley choral programs, simply paying them from a single source of money for concerts at an hourly wage rather than the alternative of making them part-time staff.

Music isn’t just noise, it’s something that brings unlike students together, brings shy students out of their shell, and gives people passions that they couldn’t explore in some Kansas schools. These harmonies, chords, and notes all mean something to every student who participates. Blue Valley’s mission is to give a space for all students to thrive, so let those students blossom with the financial support that true success can take.

While some issues being taken away seem minor to people not in music programs, these privileges being taken away completely change the rehearsal process in the classroom, therefore effecting the end result, whether that be positive or negative. We urge you, not as a student or staff, but as a person who understands why music changes someone’s world, to sign and help us prove that our voices deserve to be heard.
